As the year winds down we have once again entered the year-end awards season in the Korean entertainment season. Here’s a look at some of this year’s winners.
A ceremony was held to bestow honors to women in cinema who stood out this year. Actresses all gathered for the event from the new faces to the veterans. Trophies went to Yoon Yeo-jeong, Son Ye-jin and Kim Tae-ri in this year’s 17th awards. The awards are given to an actress or director who made prominent achievements this year and they are chosen by fellow women in the film industry. The grand prize went to veteran Yoon Yeo-jeong for her film “The Bacchus Lady.” Son Ye-jin was awarded for Best Actress and Kim Tae-ri received the newcomer award. In the film “The Truth Beneath,” Son played a mother who lost her daughter and displayed a splendid range of emotions. Kim meanwhile was the rookie film star who drew the most attention this year especially for her role in the movie “The Handmaiden.” It’s her second rookie award following the same honor she picked up at the Blue Dragon Awards. “The Handmaiden” released in theaters this June has garnered rave reviews also from abroad. It was invited the Cannes Film Festival in May and received heaps of praise from major international film festivals. The Los Angeles Film Critics Association has awarded “The Handmaiden” two awards, Best Foreign Picture and Best Production Design. It’s the first Korean film to be ever awarded by the association. In the first honor, it received two awards. Turning to TV dramas now…which couple was the most loved by Korean viewers this year? Ahead of the 2016 KBS Drama Awards to be aired on December 31st, KBS has unveiled on its homepage candidates for the best couple award. The list includes Song Joong-ki and Song Hye-kyo known as the Song-Song couple from the hit series “Descendants of the Sun.
