The DGA Award film nominations have arrived, and the top nominees really come as no surprise but which films will be vying for the title of outstanding directorial achievement in feature film award? Well, I am so glad you asked, because I have the nominees for you right here! First up is Alfonso Cuaron for this years sci-fi hit, Gravity. This is the first time Cuaron has been nominated for a DGA Award and while there is a lot of great things you can say about this film, one thing is for sure and that it’s visual effects were out of this world, pun intended. Also nominated is Paul Greengrass for Captain Phillips. This is also a first DGA nomination for Greengrass who was the man behind several of the Bourne films. Captain Phillips is loosely based on the true story of an American ship that was hijacked by Somalian pirates. This nomination list would not be complete without the inclusion of Steve McQueen’s 12 Years A Slave. Another “based on a true story” tale, 12 Years A Slave tells the heartbreaking story of a free African American man, Soloman Northup, who was kidnapped and sold into slavery. David O’Russel’s American Hustle earned him another DGA nomination. O’Russel was nominated for a DGA back in 2010 for The Fighter. The final spot on the DGA’s nominee list goes to Martin Scorsese for Wolf Of Wall Street. Even though some critics have spoken out against the films raunchy themes, it still was impressive enough to make the cut. Scorsese is no stranger to the DGA awards. This will be his 11th DGA Award nomination, and if he wins for Wolf of Wall Street it would be his third DGA. He also won a DGA for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Feature Film for The Departed back in 2006 and he also won for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Dramatic Television for Boardwalk Empire in 2010. Scorsese is also a DGA Lifetime Achievement Award winner. So, there are your nominees for this year’s DGA Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Feature Film Award but before we go we want to know which of these five films do you think is the most deserving of the DGA honor?
