Bollywood director Mansoor Khan hardly needs any introduction…

It’s no secret that he left IIT-Mumbai, MIT and Cornell halfway, as he was anti-industrial society

After being clueless for sometime, he decided to launch his cousin Aamir Khan in ‘Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak’ (1988)

He then directed ‘Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar’ (1992), ‘Akele Hum Akele Tum’ (1995) and ‘Josh’ (2000)

His last project was ‘Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na’ (2008), which he co-produced with Aamir

It’s been nearly 15 years that he quit films and moved to Coonoor in Tamil Nadu

In 2013, he turned author with self-published book ‘The Third Curve: The End of Growth As We Know It’

But, not many know that he left it all at the peak of his career to live a quieter life

Any guesses as to what he did later? He became an organic farmer and set up a farm stay – Acres Wild!

Yes, Khan bought 22 acres of lands and cows in the Nilgiri Hills where he also runs a home stay

Over these years, the ace director learnt baking bread and making soap, while his wife Tina teaches cheese-making

They both set up a bio-gas plant to irrigate trees and plants in their land

But, Khan claims that it didn’t take him courage to leave success behind and settle in Coonoor

In an interview with a website, Khan said he always dreamt of living off their ancestral land in Mumbai’s Alibag

When their land was being acquired for airport, he realized that tribals are invisibles and urban people are beneficiaries

At that point, his worldview became different from the conventional one

Khan claimed that cities are not human-friendly as they deplete the whole resources

He emphasized that non-urban society is therapeutic

He argued that humans destroyed half of the planet as our understanding of reality is inverted

He even defined human beings as the viruses of planet Earth and vowed not to stop talking about until he is listened to

Well, that certainly explains him – articulate and contrarian!
