USA: LOS ANGELES: OSCAR AWARDS: PARTY TIME

Oscar winners, nominees and movie stars have been partying the night away in Los Angeles following the Academy Awards.
Even as the Academy guests were still inside the auditorium, the rest of the town’s stars let their hair down.
Long before the best picture is announced, the stars begin doing the rounds of the parties.
The place to see and be seen was the party thrown by the glitziest magazine of them all, Vanity Fair, whose love affair with Hollywood seems entirely mutual.
The party drew Hollywood’s current A-list crowd, including Best Actress winner Gwyneth Paltrow.
And even those who were hosting their own party — like Miramax chairman Harvey Weinstein — first stopped by the Vanity Fair party.

“I had no idea about anything. I am just so astonished and happy at the same time. Thrilled. This year we made a good movie and people responded and Life is Beautiful got great response too so it’s all about the movies, that’s what it’s all about.

Pop star and actress Madonna also made her appearance.
And the party even attracted newly-minted celebrities like Monica Lewinsky.

“His exhurberance is really — he can’t help it. He starts to go and get into that cramped position of that permanent smile. Even when he’s not got anything to do with it, they cut to him because he’s got this beam coming off his face. It’s great.”

But the biggest new star of the night was “Life is Beautiful” star and director Roberto Benigni, who walked off with a handful of Oscars, and whose bubbling joy lit up the night.
He made his appearance at the Miramax party.

“I don’t know what to say, it’s one of the biggest prizes in the world. Lets say I was not expecting to win but I was hoping to.”
